Harper’s Weekly, with the subtitle »A Journal of Civilization«, was a political magazine based in New York City. Published by Harper & Brothers from 1857 until 1916. Among other things, it carried extensive coverage of the American Civil War.

If the magazine has anything to do with the Swedish band Harper’s Weekly remains unclear. Probably nothing at all.

Listening to their debut album »Morning Comes«, it's obvious that this is a band with deep roots in American music, what we today call Americana. The ambitious music archeologist would probably be able to trace the roots all the way back to the days of the Civil War. But let's not go that far. Harper’s Weekly makes music inspired by and maybe even related to the music of Townes van Zandt, Cowboy Junkies, Ryan Adams and Phosphorescent. And they do it with confidence, love and joy. And a twist of their own.
